Roundup Attorney in Indiana
Roundup is a weed killer with its primary component the chemical glyphosate. Roundup is manufactured and sold by Monsanto. Glyphosate, has been designated as a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organization. Farmers, farm workers, landscapers, gardeners and others who have had significant use of Roundup are at risk for developing non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and, perhaps, other forms of cancer. Consumers across the United States and throughout the world have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma as a result of using Roundup. Foley & Small is representing consumers on those claims.
Roundup (Glyphosate) Cancer Studies
Apart from the IARC study finding glyphosate to be a probable human carcinogen, there are many other studies with similar findings. A 2019 study published in the Journal of Hematology and Oncology identified the biological mechanism through which glyphosate activates an enzyme known to cause genetic mutations leading to multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Another 2019 study in the Mutation Research / Reviews reported a “compelling link” between exposure to glyphosate herbicides and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. An epidemiological study published in 2014 discussing nearly 30 years of research found a significant association between glyphosate and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. There are even studies farther back in time showing the link to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A study published in 2003 in the Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Chemical Toxicology reported on efforts at the National Cancer Institute and its Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics. It found a doubling of the risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma among individuals exposed to Roundup. Finally, another study published in 2002 in Leukemia and Lymphoma found a link between glyphosate and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Multidistrict Litigation on Roundup (Glyphosate)
Cases have been filed across the United States against Monsanto with multiple verdicts having been entered in the millions of dollars in favor of individuals who have developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Cases have been filed in state courts and there is now a federal multidistrict litigation proceeding. Foley & Small is representing individuals in Indiana who have developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after significant exposure to glyphosate through use of Roundup.
Monsanto’s Knowledge of Roundup’s Dangers
Discovery and investigation efforts in the cases brought against Monsanto have disclosed documents revealing Monsanto’s knowledge that glyphosate was a carcinogenic chemical. Even more startling has been the disclosure of Monsanto’s efforts to cover up and falsely report to governmental agencies and others that glyphosate was safe for use by humans. There have been numerous news articles reporting on how Monsanto would plant false stories, suppressing efforts by legitimate scientific inquiry and efforts to silence those attempting to disclose the truth on the cancer-causing aspects of use of glyphosate.
