Taxotere Attorney

Foley & Small is accepting Taxotere cases where use of the medication resulted in Alopecia. Alopecia, also known as spot baldness, is a condition where hair loss is experienced in some or all area of the body. Alopecia often results in a few bald spots on the scalp, though it can result in complete hair loss to the scalp. Alopecia has come to be identified as a known adverse risk from the use of Taxotere.

A Brief Summary

  • Taxotere, a chemotherapy drug, was approved for use in the United States in 1996, for the last
line treatment of breast cancer. Taxotere is the trade name for docetaxel.
  • Sanofi, the manufacturer of Taxotere, reported to the European Medicines Agency (ema) 2005
that alopecia was observed as ongoing in 9.2% of patients.
  • Ema confirms “the cumulative weighted evidence is sufficient to support a casual relationship
between Docetaxel and permanent/irreversible alopecia in the patients who received
    Docetaxel.” e. Pp. 11-22.
  • Sanofi failed to warn of permanent alopecia. (i.e. 1990s-2010 label… once you have completed
all your treatments hair generally grows back, 2011-2014 label…explain to patients that side
effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, excessive tearing, infusion site
reactions, and hair loss are associated with Docetaxel administration)
  • 2015 FDA requires label change warning of “permanent” hair loss approved on December 11,
2015… and hair loss (cases of permanent hair loss have been reports) are associated with
    Docetaxel administration.

Why Foley & Small?

The Big Picture

Sanofi – (manufacturer of Taxotere)

  • Sanofi allegedly misrepresented the claimed increased efficacy of Taxotere
  • Sanofi allegedly failed to warn of permanent alopecia
  • Sanofi allegedly misled American doctors and patients about permanent, disfiguring hair loss
  • Two major players in the breast cancer chemo market are Taxol approved in 1993 and
    Taxotere approved in 1996
  • Taxotere altered the Taxol molecule thereby increasing activity on a cellular level and in doing
    so increased the potency.
  • Taxotere initially was to be used for end stage
